Paris

We left London on Sunday and caught the Eurostar train to Paris – 20 minutes of the 2 hour 23 minute journey was inside the “Chunnel”, the tunnel under the English Channel.

Paris was bustling and after checking into our hotel in the 5th District in the Left Bank area of Saint Germain, we explored the nearby sights, including watching a Mass at Notre Dame.

We have spent the last 2 days exploring the normal (and sometimes not so normal) touristy things, including the Eiffel Tower (didn’t go up as a lift had broken down and the queue was 300 metres long, but compensated for by the greatest ever hot dog!), the Arc De T, Luxembourg Gardens, the Pantheon, Lafayette Department store (and many more), Champs Elysees, and the list goes on.

We are eating our way through our check-list of things to target – foie grois, duck (canard), beef tartare (raw mince), crepes, gelati, onion soup, etc, etc. Have had trouble finding a bad bread stick (baguette) to eat

Paris is much cleaner and well kept than our memories of 34 years ago. Only problem is the smokers – can’t escape them – they are either eating or smoking or both along every footpath.

Beef Tartare - not even cooked!

Almost seems rude, like looking up its skirt.....

The Two Magots - famous cafe, but no sign of Hemmingway or Picaso
